The east coast of Norfolk is one of the best kept secrets of the UK holiday industry. Away from the hustle and bustle of some of the better known commercialised holiday destinations, Norfolk is a county of plain, simple beauty, and Wells Next the Sea is a rare jewel set amongst the broad flats and the salt marshes. Built in 1720, Walnut cottage is a lovely doubled fronted Georgian property. It has of course been lovingly updated to bring it into the 21st century without losing any of its charm or character. The small port town of Wells Next the Sea itself also retains much of its original charm thanks to the existence of the small lanes through which holidaymakers can meander at their leisure. The quayside is picturesque, as are the rows of holiday cottages Wells Next to Sea has, each one decorated in different, soft pastel shades, with their large Georgian sash windows staring out watchfully over the townscape.

Walnut holiday cottage in Norfolk is built on 3 floors. On the ground floor you will find the large kitchen/diner and lounge; on the first floor the master bedroom and the generously proportioned family bathroom, and on the second floor, a large twin bedroom with two good size single beds.

The owners of the holiday cottage in Norfolk have done their best to ensure that Walnut Cottage has kept much of its original feel. The floorboards are mostly stripped pine, and the original oak beams are still on plain view. The kitchen is bedecked with handmade pine wood furniture, as well as having all of the modern day conveniences that we have come to expect, including a gas cooker with oven, a fridge, a microwave, and a washing machine.

Norfolk Cottage Holiday

Walnut Holiday Cottage, Norfolk manages to exude that lovely, welcoming, "lived in" feeling, demonstrated no better than in its fine lounge. It is furnished with mock period furniture, (true to the cottage's heritage), has a lovely stone fireplace, and exhibits some of the original oak woodwork. The room is busily furnished with easy chairs, a period coffee table, and dark wood units, and has lots of pictures adorning the walls. The modern touch is added via the colour TV and the music centre.

The master bedroom on the first floor has a splendid four poster bed in keeping with the cottage's Georgian roots, and the large family bathroom plays its part too with wooden panelling on the old high cistern with a pull flush chain, positioned above a toilet with a wooden seat. The bathroom also has a lovely Victorian style roll top bath, but the modern touch is added via the new separate shower cubicle with its state of the art power shower.

All in all, Walnut Cottage is one of the loveliest holiday cottages Norfolk has to offer. The Olde Worlde charm, but with modern day conveniences, is in splendid keeping with the ambience of Wells Next the Sea itself. It's like a beautiful little time bubble where you can come to enjoy a quiet, restful holiday far away from the push and shove of modern day life.
