Wells Next the Sea is a delightful small town on the East coast of Norfolk. In spite of being called "Wells Next the Sea", this pretty little town is actually about one mile from the open sea itself. It is however on the water, being a small port town just one mile up the estuary, surrounded by Wells salt marshes. It's a lovely place to holiday, and there is a superb little cottage, (one of the best holiday cottages Norfolk has to offer), just 5 minutes walk from the quayside that is available for holidays lets.

By the way, don't think that we've made a grammatical mistake when we say "Wells Next the Sea". You might be forgiven for saying "you missed out the TO". But in reality, the name really is "Wells Next the Sea" without the "to".

The name of this delightful little cottage is Walnut Cottage. It's situated in the High Street of Wells Next the Sea, where it nestles in amongst a row of the prettiest pastel shaded holiday cottages Norfolk has to offer. The High Street was once a busy thoroughfare going back to the 18th century when it housed all of the town's shops. In Tudor times, this small port was one of the most important on the east coast; but times marches on, and sadly, that is not the case today. Despite losing most of its trade, Wells Next the Sea still does remain one of the few commercially viable ports along this piece of coastline. The town has a honeycomb of lovely little passages and narrow lanes that lend it its character. It's a fantastic place to use a base of operations if you want to explore the lovely surrounding countryside.

Walnut Holiday Cottage, Wells Next the Sea, itself, is a fine example of one of the best double fronted Georgian holiday cottages Norfolk has anywhere along this splendid coastal region. It has two bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen/diner, and a large size family bathroom. The master bedroom, (complete with magnificent four poster bed) is to be found on the first floor, as is the large family bathroom. It houses a splendid Victorian roll top bath, a separate shower cubicle containing a power shower, as well as the toilet itself, and hand basin. The second floor contains the twin bedded bedroom which has splendid views across to the village green.

The large kitchen space also contains the dining area. There is an excellent range of hand built pine kitchen furniture, a multi-fuel burner, and a combination boiler for all of your hot water. This fully functional kitchen has a gas cooker, fridge, microwave, and a washing machine. In the lounge you will find a colour TV, a DVD and a music centre. All of the rooms have large sash windows which allow lots on natural light in, and much of the flooring throughout is stripped pine.

Walnut cottage is a holiday cottage Wells Next the Sea can be proud of. Originally built in 1720 is has been kept up to date with all mod cons without ruining its history or character. It is absolutely delightful. You've only got to visit the website and read the visitor's book to see just how much previous holidaymakers have enjoyed both the cottage, and the town. You should book early to avoid disappointment.
